China stock market policy scan on Aug. 3, as follows:
1. The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) of China’s manufacturing sector stood at 53.3 percent in July, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing said Saturday.
The figure was up 0.1 percentage point from June. The June index gained 0.1 percentage point from a month ago.
Comment: a reading of above 50 for PMI suggests expansion, while one below 50 indicates contraction. The strong PMI data may indicate the consolidated recovery of China’s economy. Confidence of stock investors will be shored up by the data.
2. Kong Jingquan, an official with National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) noted that the price reform on resource products will be further advanced in the second half of this year. he official noted that the reform on electricity price, water price and compensation on mineral resources are the key points for the reform.
Comment: officials with NDRC have reiterated the price reform recently, which is expected to strengthen investors’ enthusiasm on the public utility block.
Meanwhile, as the reform on mineral resource compensation may increase the cost of the metal and coal industry, metal and coal blocks are likely to be curbed somewhat.
